People Over Politics
My name is
Oakley Corsick-Boycott
I am running for Lander City Council,
representing the citizens of Lander in Ward 1.
I’m running because I love my hometown. I deeply care about my hometown and all the people who call Lander home. I was born in Lander. I was raised in Lander. I attended Hudson Elementary School, West Elementary School, Starrett Jr. High School and am a graduate of LVHS, Class of 2007. As a graduate of the American Musical and Dramatic Academy in New York City, I have moved back and forth between Lander and New York City many times over the last 15 years adding a unique perspective to what we all know; that we are so very fortunate to call Lander our home.
Currently I work as the Outreach Director for the Lander Art Center.
I am running for Lander City Council because I believe that this town, this community and its people are worth investing in. When we talk about “investing” it should never just be about money. True investment in Lander means investment in time, energy, connection, work, research, detail-oriented decision making and most importantly, community care.
I believe that every citizen of Lander is worth investing in, regardless of our political party identity. I am specifically and intentionally running for Lander City Council because it is a non-partisan seat. Because I truly do believe in people over politics. Especially when it comes to city issues.
I believe that if any elected official or any candidate running for public office is not able to work for all of their constituents regardless of political party, then they don’t deserve to hold that seat. I’m here to hold myself accountable to that.
Of all the issues that continue to be addressed in our community, the issue that will always be of upmost importance to me is that of not leaving each other behind.
The world will continue to change.
Leaders will come and go and though I do grieve for the Lander of my childhood, I know that it is all of our responsibility as citizens to make sure that what we love about our town, is preserved and cared for; starting with each other.
I am invested in our community working together to continue to build long term municipal infrastructure funding including water, sewage, roads, preventative measures for climatic disruption and safer pathways.
I want to collaborate across the community to work on the exploration of options for attainable housing, and invest in economic development, proceeding with caution that we do not overdevelop our community beyond recognition.
With great amenities comes huge responsibilities and even larger consequences.
By choosing to run for Lander City Council, it is my hope that more young people can see themselves running for public office. It is our future and the future of our children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren that is being built right now. It is our responsibility to listen and act on their behalf, as well as make sure that the rest of our community isn’t left behind.
I believe in people over politics. Always.
I will work to hold myself accountable to that through November 8th and beyond, regardless of the outcome.
Because it is about the body of work that we as community are working to create together.
I’m Oakley Corsick-Boycott and it would be an honor to serve the citizens of Ward 1 on Lander City Council.
